Tom Hardy Drops Hip-Hop Album With CZARFACE, Method Man, Busta Rhymes

2w ago

Hollywood heavyweight Tom Hardy is stepping into the hip-hop arena with a full-length album, officially bringing his long-standing musical alter ego, Frankie Pulitzer, to the forefront. The project, titled *Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer*, is a collaboration with the acclaimed underground hip-hop supergroup CZARFACE and includes features from rap legends Method Man, Busta Rhymes, and EL-O.

The album is scheduled for release on August 28, following an announcement made on June 26, 2026. This news coincided with the debut of the single "Brothers Grimm," which offers a taste of the album's gritty boom-bap production and intricate rhyme schemes. The release marks Hardy's most significant musical undertaking to date, fully embracing his persona, also known as Face Puller, which he subtly acknowledges in his Instagram bio.

Hardy's journey in hip-hop stretches back to his teenage years, long before his rise to Hollywood stardom. He began rapping around age 14 or 15 under the name Tommy No. 1, drawing inspiration from the late 1990s New York underground rap scene. While he reportedly secured a record deal at 15, his acting career ultimately took precedence. In 2018, an 18-track unfinished mixtape from 1999, titled *Falling on Your Arse in 1999*, surfaced online. This collection, recorded with his longtime collaborator Edward Tracy, known as Eddie Too Tall, offered the public a glimpse into Hardy's early lyricism over lo-fi 90s production. Edward Tracy noted that the vocals for the 1999 mixtape were recorded raw, in a single take, using a handheld tape dictaphone without overdubs.

Despite his early immersion, Hardy has expressed modesty about his initial rap abilities. In a 2011 BBC interview, he stated he "wasn't very good" and acknowledged that his background from a "nice middle-class neighborhood, it was a very hard sell." However, he also revealed significant connections, noting he "used to be with the guy who managed Leela James and Lauryn Hill, Pras, the Fugees and all that" and "worked out with [Grammy-winning producers] Warren Riker and Gordon Williams," indicating his early engagement with serious music industry figures.

In more recent years, Hardy has quietly built his credibility within underground hip-hop through a series of collaborations with CZARFACE. He has contributed to tracks on their *Good Guys, Bad Guys EP* and appeared on albums such as *Czarmageddon* and *Czartificial Intelligence*. Some of this collaborative music even found its way into the *Venom* film franchise, where Hardy stars. Esoteric, a member of CZARFACE, recounted that Hardy personally reached out to him regarding the inclusion of the group's music in the *Venom* movie, recalling an early morning international phone call from the UK. Hardy has also woven his acting career into his lyrics, with one track featuring a line about whipping "an Audi like Bruce in a Batmobile," a nod to his role as Bane, and other verses referencing his films *Legend* and *Inception*. He has also publicly shared his appreciation for hip-hop, mentioning in a 2021 BBC Radio 1 interview that the voice for his character Venom is inspired by a blend of Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Redman, James Brown, and Richard Burton. He even attempted to integrate a line from Bobby Shmurda's "Hot N-gga" into his 2016 film *The Revenant*, though it did not make the final cut.

CZARFACE, the primary collaborators on the upcoming album, is an American hip-hop supergroup formed in 2013, comprising underground duo 7L & Esoteric and Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck. Known for blending comic book mythology, sharp lyricism, and boom-bap production, often with comic-inspired cover art, their self-titled debut album dropped on February 19, 2013. The character of Czarface is envisioned as a hero dedicated to saving hip-hop, representing all three group members. The group has also collaborated with other notable figures like MF Doom and Ghostface Killah.

Method Man, born Clifford Smith Jr., is a highly respected rapper, producer, and actor. A founding member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan and one half of Method Man & Redman, his debut solo album, *Tical*, achieved significant success in 1994. He won a Grammy Award in 1996 for "I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By" with Mary J. Blige. Beyond music, he holds recurring roles in HBO series like *Oz* and *The Wire*. Busta Rhymes, born Trevor George Smith Jr., is celebrated for his distinctive, rapid-fire lyrical delivery and high-energy performances. An original member of Leaders of the New School, he gained early recognition through his guest spot on A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario" and has garnered 12 Grammy nominations. His acclaimed debut solo album, *The Coming*, was released in 1996.

Busta Rhymes publicly teased his involvement with Hardy on August 6, 2024, posting a picture of them together on Instagram. His caption, "I KEEP TELLING Y'ALL THAT THE BLESSINGS DON'T SO WE WON'T EVER STOP, EVERRRRR!!! THE INCREDIBLE @tomhardy AND THE DRAGON STAY TUNED!!", accompanied by a short clip of them embracing on what appeared to be a film set, sparked speculation about both a musical collaboration and a potential cameo in Hardy's upcoming film *Venom: The Last Dance*.

The release of *Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer* marks a significant moment, bringing a celebrated actor's long-standing musical passion to the public eye through a collaboration with established and respected figures in the hip-hop community. It highlights a unique crossover, bridging mainstream cinema with the authentic sounds of underground rap. Fans and critics alike will be watching to see how this ambitious project is received and what it means for the evolving landscape of celebrity and music.
