SIMIEN Set to Make Waves With Akon's Konvict Kulture

2w ago

The music scene is about to get a fresh dose of electrifying sound. SIMIEN, a dynamic trio of sisters Taédym, Jaiden, and Kamrein, is making headlines as they prepare to drop new music under the banner of Akon's revitalized Konvict Kulture label. Their self-described "Urban Electro-Pop" sound, a unique fusion of alternative rock, R&B, and pop, is already generating considerable buzz.

Global superstar Akon officially unveiled SIMIEN in April 2024, expressing strong confidence in their potential to become the next big thing in music. This introduction marked a significant moment, as Akon reportedly indicated that the group had reignited his passion for the music business after a period of feeling demotivated. The sisters are now set to release their debut single, "Utterly in Love," through Konvict Kulture, with the official music video premiering on July 18, 2025. They have also collaborated with Akon on the track "Sugar."

SIMIEN's journey to this pivotal moment is rooted in years of dedicated craftsmanship and a rich cultural background. The sisters spent their formative years in Los Angeles, where they honed their performance skills at the prestigious Debbie Allen Dance Academy. This non-profit institution, renowned for providing comprehensive dance classes and enriching lives through the arts, particularly within disenfranchised Black and Latino communities, played a crucial role in their artistic development. Debbie Allen herself is a highly acclaimed figure, boasting a career spanning three decades with numerous accolades, including six Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, five NAACP Image Awards, and a Kennedy Center Honor, alongside choreographing the Academy Awards a record ten times.

Beyond their dance training, the sisters' heritage deeply influences their genre-defying music. They draw from rich Creole Louisiana and Native American roots, coupled with a gospel upbringing, all of which contribute to the distinct sound they cultivate. After years of independently writing and producing their music, the sisters eventually made Atlanta their home, continuing to refine their artistry and maintain creative control over their work.

Their commitment to authenticity and creative independence has attracted mentorship and collaborations from an impressive roster of industry legends. Alongside Akon, SIMIEN has worked with and received guidance from icons such as Teddy Riley and Debbie Allen. Their circle of collaborators also includes Grammy Award-winning artists, composers, arrangers, producers, and songwriters, including Mama Jan Smith, Benjamin Wright, Jermaine Dupri, Brian Michael Cox, Anthony Dent, Reggie Calloway, John Howcott, Sean Garrett, Tricky Stewart, Ronnie Jackson, Tommy Brown, JR Rotem, and Mike & Keys. These varied influences are evident in the sisters' individual inspirations; Kamrein reportedly looks to Rihanna for her style and vibe, while Taédym cites Aaliyah, Prince, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Cher, emphasizing authenticity as a core influence. Jaiden, for her part, stresses the importance of being deeply involved in their craft.

The group's debut single, "Utterly in Love," draws inspiration from a real-life "girl code" incident, which the sisters transformed into art. They shared that the track is "about not settling for the bare minimum and knowing your worth," adding, "Respect between people and especially between sisters is everything." The collaboration on "Sugar" with Akon was described by Taédym as organic and enjoyable, noting, "It was so much fun. It just came so organically." Jaiden echoed this sentiment, stating, "On set was so much fun. We had all the extras, got to meet everyone."

SIMIEN's dedication to creative control is a cornerstone of their identity. Kamrein articulated this commitment, saying, "We want it to be heard and out there. One big thing as a group is it's important to be yourself, have the creative freedom, have the right team around you, and just to be you." This continuous creative drive is a constant for them, as Taédym explained, "we like genuinely stay in that zone at all times like there's no getting out of it we're in it forever." They frequently use voice memos to capture ideas, which are later developed in the studio. The group's name, SIMIEN, is their actual last name, a choice made to reflect their family-oriented values.

The trio's fanbase, affectionately known as the "SIMINATI," is seen by the sisters as individuals who seek to express themselves and feel understood. Taédym remarked, "Our fans are people who want to express themselves and feel understood." The lyrics crafted by SIMIEN are often described as pages from a collective coming-of-age diary, fearlessly tackling themes of love, identity, and empowerment with honesty. Beyond their musical endeavors, the sisters are deeply involved in various creative pursuits, including painting, designing clothes, acting, gaming, and anime. Kamrein highlighted this broader artistic drive, noting, "We just love creating — in all forms."

For aspiring artists, SIMIEN offers a collective message of resilience and self-belief. Kamrein advises, "Be unapologetically yourself. Keep your faith strong — you'll need it." Jaiden encourages, "Don't let others define your vision. Just keep going." Taédym emphasizes, "Your heart has to be in it. Passion and thick skin are essential." The sisters collectively expressed their gratitude to their fanbase, stating, "We love you guys! This is only the beginning — we can't wait to show you what's next!" The anticipation surrounding SIMIEN underscores their unique position as a self-sufficient, creatively driven sister trio entering the music industry with the significant backing of an established global artist.
