Prime Video's hit series "Off Campus" is gearing up for a dramatically different second season, as reports confirm a major cast shake-up. Actor Josh Heuston, who played Justin Kohl and was a central figure in the first season's romantic triangle, will not be returning, signaling a significant pivot for the show's narrative.

The departure, publicly acknowledged in May 2026, means Heuston's character, Justin Kohl, will not be part of the upcoming storyline. Showrunner Louisa Levy attributed the change to scheduling conflicts, expressing her hope that the character could potentially reappear in future seasons. Levy stated, "Not next season, but I love Josh and I would not write him off if I can find a way to bring Justin back at some point."

"Off Campus," based on Elle Kennedy's popular book series, premiered on Prime Video on May 13, 2026. The series received an early renewal for a second season in February 2026, even before its debut. Production for the first season took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, from June 9, 2025, to October 2, 2025. The second season is currently slated for a 2027 release, with production anticipated to commence soon, also in Vancouver.

Heuston, an Australian actor born on November 18, 1996, with Anglo-Sri Lankan heritage, brought the character of Justin Kohl to life in the inaugural season. Before his acting career took off, Heuston was a sought-after model, working with high-profile brands such as Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Gucci. His screen debut came in the 2021 teen thriller series "Dive Club," and he later gained wider recognition for his role as Dusty in Netflix's "Heartbreak High" in 2022. He also had an appearance in Marvel's "Thor: Love and Thunder" that same year and currently stars as Constantine Corrino in HBO's "Dune: Prophecy." Interestingly, Heuston initially pursued a double degree in biomolecular science and commerce at university before pivoting to acting.

In the first season of "Off Campus," Justin Kohl was introduced as a musician and became Hannah Wells' initial love interest, forming a compelling love triangle with hockey star Garrett Graham. This portrayal diverged from Elle Kennedy's original books, where Justin is depicted as a football player. However, the author herself voiced approval of this creative change, reportedly stating in a public Q&A that she felt it "makes a lot of sense."

Showrunner Louisa Levy’s comments further elaborated on the situation surrounding Heuston's exit. She reflected on the character's potential future, remarking, "We never got a chance to meet Stella, who is the person he ends up with in the book. So maybe we'll find a way to fold him into a future season. We don't have him [available] next season, but never say never." This leaves the door open for Justin Kohl's return if scheduling allows.

The series follows a "Bridgerton format," meaning each season spotlights a different romantic couple from the fictional Briar University. While the first season captivated audiences with the developing relationship between Hannah Wells, played by Ella Bright, and Garrett Graham, portrayed by Belmont Cameli, the upcoming Season 2 will shift its primary romantic focus. The narrative will now center on Allie Hayes, played by Mika Abdalla, and Dean Di Laurentis, brought to life by Stephen Kalyn.

This decision to shift the main romantic focus, particularly with Heuston's departure, marks a significant deviation from the sequential order of Kennedy's books. Fans will see a new couple take center stage, reshaping the romantic landscape of Briar University. The series' ability to adapt its narrative structure while maintaining its core appeal will be a key factor as it moves forward without one of its initial leading men.
