The film was both written and directed by Tamera Hill, who also served as an executive producer through her company, Hidden Gem Entertainment. Hill is known for her character-driven storytelling, which often draws from faith and explores themes vital to the Black family experience, such as resilience and connection. Her previous work includes co-writing the Netflix feature "Never Heard," which saw a national theatrical release before moving to the streaming platform in 2018. Hill also founded Hidden Gem Entertainment TV, a streaming network available on platforms like Roku, Firestick, and Apple TV, which launched its first original production, "Workplace Drama," in November 2023. Hill's personal journey, including discovering she had a sister later in life who connected with her on Facebook, partly inspired the film's exploration of hidden family connections. She began her writing career in her thirties after a career in the corporate sector, eventually producing her first play at the Lyceum Theatre in San Diego.
