Rich Paul, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1980 and first met James in 2002, emphasized that the decision was a "happiness-led one," signaling that financial incentives would not be the primary driver in James's choice of his next destination. Paul, whose Klutch Sports Group, founded in 2012, has negotiated over $4 billion in deals and who also serves as co-head of the sports division at United Talent Agency, noted that approximately "10, 12 teams" had expressed interest in the veteran forward. He added that for James to be "at 41 years of age, going on 42," and still be so highly sought after is "something to be extremely proud about," calling it "admirable." However, Paul cautioned against rampant speculation, stating that "nobody knows anything about anything that pertains to LeBron" and that "there's been zero conversations" regarding his next team.

The Lakers organization responded to the announcement with a heartfelt farewell message from governor Jeanie Buss. Buss, born in Santa Monica, California, in 1961, who took control of the Lakers in 2013 and became the first female controlling owner to lead her team to an NBA championship in 2020, hailed James as "one of the greatest athletes in history."
