Fallout 4 continues to captivate players more than a decade after its initial launch, a testament to its enduring world and dedicated community. Now, Bethesda Game Studios has delivered a substantial new update for the game's Anniversary Edition, specifically targeting console players with a massive expansion to Creations storage alongside a suite of crucial bug fixes.

The May 27, 2026, update is a game-changer for those looking to enhance their post-apocalyptic adventures with user-generated content. The most significant change is the dramatic increase in Creations storage limits across various platforms. Xbox Series X|S owners are seeing an impressive leap, with storage now scalable up to 100GB, a fifty-fold increase from the previous 2GB. Meanwhile, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One users will also benefit from an upgrade, with their Creations storage increasing to approximately 15GB from their respective 1GB or 2GB limits.

This long-awaited storage expansion had been a topic of much discussion among the fanbase. Originally slated for November 2025, the feature faced multiple delays before Bethesda confirmed its arrival on May 20, 2026, for the May 27 release. The studio's announcement highlighted the potential for players to download "larger, more ambitious Creations" with the newfound space.

The disparity in storage capacity between the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation platforms, with an 85GB gap, is reportedly rooted in a 2016 Sony policy. This policy mandates that PlayStation mods must solely utilize assets already present within the base game, prohibiting external textures, new models, or custom audio files. No such restriction applies to Xbox, which allows for a wider range of mod content and, consequently, greater storage needs. Bethesda confirmed these differing figures in their official statements but did not publicly elaborate on the precise reasons for the 85GB difference between their current-generation console offerings.

Beyond the storage boost, the May 27 update also brought several critical fixes. Players had been experiencing issues like infinite loading screens when attempting to sign into the Creations menu with an account linked to another platform. PlayStation users had reported crashes when downloading a Creation and returning to the Main Menu, while some found that selecting "Download all Creations in My Library" would fail outright. These problems have all reportedly been addressed.

PC players also received specific attention, with a fix for the "Bunker Home Pack" incorrectly reporting "not enough space." Additionally, a bug that sometimes prevented NPCs and objects from spawning in the "Enclave Remnants Creation" has been resolved, along with a UI glitch where "LOOKUP FAILED!" appeared instead of "Commonwealth" across various interface elements.

For players with active Fallout 4 console saves older than November 10, 2025, Bethesda issued a crucial advisory: archiving their load orders before applying the update was recommended. This is because the storage migration process was expected to reset existing mod configurations, potentially impacting those older saves. Xbox users were informed that their installed Creations would be cleared, requiring them to re-download content or restore a saved load order. In contrast, PlayStation 5 users had their installed Creations preserved through the update process.
