A$AP Rocky Says His Kids Still Have Rihanna's Fame To Discover

1d ago

A$AP Rocky has a theory about what his kids will figure out next, and it has everything to do with their mother. The rapper, born Rakim Athelston Mayers, says his sons are finally getting a close look at what their dad does for a living. Still, he thinks the biggest shock is yet to come.

In a new interview published Friday, October 16, Rocky looked back on a night in Copenhagen that gave his children a front-row view of his career. The stop on September 18 at the Royal Arena was part of his Don't Be Dumb World Tour. Speaking from Paris, where he said he was a bit homesick after a long stretch of travel, he walked through the moment and what it meant to him.

The most talked-about part of the night came near the end of the set. Rihanna and their son Riot joined Rocky onstage during "Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2," his 2015 song. Fan footage showed Rihanna holding Riot and filming on her phone while Rocky held the boy in one arm and a loudspeaker in the other. He dedicated a song to "my son and my family." Riot eventually stood between his parents, grabbed the megaphone, told the crowd "Let's go!" and shared a fist bump with his father. Rocky closed the show with a simple send-off: "Everybody get home safe, good night!" Reports described Rihanna's appearance as rare.

Rocky said Riot has a personality that stands out in a family of siblings. He called his son "a cutie" and "little Spider-Man," and said, "He's the extrovert out of all of his siblings. And I think he has the strongest personality." Riot was curious that night and wanted to know whether his father sang and whether A$AP Twelvyy made music. The boy's comfort in front of a crowd fit a pattern Rocky had already described in earlier interviews.

Rocky also framed the night as a return to arenas after what he called an "eight-year hiatus." "This is their first time seeing their dad on stages," he said. "But I'm like, wait till they get a load of mom, wait till they even realize who their mother is." That line sums up where he thinks the family's next chapter is headed, with the kids still catching up to the fame that surrounds their mother.

Rocky also gave fans a rundown of what is next. He described an upcoming project called Disc 2, calling it "an extension" of his album Don't Be Dumb. One more leg of the tour is set to run through Australia and New Zealand in December, and he said he hopes to play South America and Africa later. He is also "gearing up" for Grammy season. "I gotta take something home, man," he said of the album's chances. "I put in blood, sweat, and tears." He mentioned a mysterious "next chapter" and a record-breaking fashion show, and he kept the details of that next chapter close to the vest.

This is not the first time Rocky has talked about how his sons relate to his fame. In an interview last September, he said his sons, RZA and Riot, had not asked for either parent's music and "can't even develop the concept of having famous parents at this moment." He said the boys preferred "childish, musical, kiddie kind of sounds" and did not yet understand his work. He expected them to be "up in my business" within a year or two. "I need them to know Dad is a rockstar, Mommy's a rockstar," he said at the time.

The family's public story goes back well before the kids. Rocky and Rihanna first performed together at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards with a flirty onstage hug. In 2013, he opened for the North American leg of her Diamonds World Tour, and she starred in his "Fashion Killa" video that September. In an April 2024 magazine conversation, Rihanna said the two began dating at the end of 2019. "We started dating with a lot of caution," she said. Earlier this year, in June, Rocky spotted Riot in the crowd at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and told him, "Daddy loves you, son." The couple have three children: sons RZA and Riot, and daughter Rocki, who reportedly turned one in September. Rihanna, who founded Fenty Beauty, has built a career that has long kept her on the road.

Rihanna has talked about her children in her own words too. "The babies are amazing," she told a publication. "They're all getting bigger, and I cannot take it." Rocky has also described the couple's life around the birth of their children. In a summer cover story, he said they laughed and joked during Rihanna's labor, which he called "so exciting." Those moments show a couple who have never been shy about making family life part of their public image.

The work-family balance has come up in earlier interviews too. In a 2024 interview, Rocky said RZA was more reserved, like him, while Riot took after his mother's outgoing side. He also said he sometimes came home after the boys were asleep and left before they woke, and that fatherhood had changed his schedule and the music that inspired him. Rihanna has described a similar tension. She said her sons shaped every choice she made, but doing the work she loved meant time away from them. She also described guilt about showing up for one part of her life while another suffered, and said she wanted to feel fulfilled at work while letting go of the guilt that came with balancing it all.

The Copenhagen moment matters because it shows the family's public and private lives colliding on one stage. Fans rarely see the couple share a stage with their kids, and reports described that night as rare. For now, coverage has centered on the family moment and Rocky's comments. Reports did not identify formal reactions from other public figures or organizations to the Copenhagen appearance or the new interview.

Rocky says he expects his sons to start asking more questions about his work within a year or two. For now, the next public moments are on the calendar: the December dates in Australia and New Zealand, the Disc 2 project, and the run-up to Grammy season. Those are the dates to watch as the kids keep learning what their parents do.
